Perceptual Stress Management Strategy

In our previous post we discussed 5 easy stress management strategies in short. In this post we are going to elaborate the very first technique i.e. Perceptual Strategy.

What is Perceptual Stress Management Strategy?
Perceptual refers to what you see and how you interpret those visuals. This strategy assists you in reducing the stress levels which have been built up by seeing something.

Following are some important factors to cut down your stress levels:
  • Scanning Positivity and Negativity
  • Visualizing Relaxing Scenes
  •  Diverse Tactics

Scanning Positivity & Negativity:

First you have to learn to scan the positive and negative scenes around you. What makes you feel bad is negative and what creates good feeling inside you is a positive visual or thought. Now you have to exclude the depressing thoughts and focus on the refreshing ones. This is called positive scanning.
If you would put more emphasis on less constructive portions then it will lead you to more anxiety and stress. So you have to ignore the negative thoughts which strike your mind and put your attentions on the positivities around you like greenery, sky, clouds etc. Avoid negative scanning.

Visualize Relaxing Scenes:

Whenever you find yourself getting stressed, recall your relaxing scenes. Visualize those thoughts as much as you can by focusing on what you are watching, smelling, feeling, hearing etc.
Be the actor of that spot rather being the audience.

Diverse Tactics:

When you start feeling strained or pressurized keep some hands on diversions. These diversions could be watching a movie, reading a novel or article, surfing over the internet, listening to music  or talking to a friend on phone etc. Whatever is your hobby just start doing that when you feel tensed.

In our later articles we will discuss other stress reducing strategies one by one.
